New Delhi [India]: In response to recent action by food regulators in Singapore and Hong Kong, India's commerce and industry ministry initiated an inquiry into the alleged banning of certain spices manufactured by Indian companies such as MDH and Everest, according to sources familiar with the matter. The Ministry has reportedly reached out to authorities in Singapore and Hong Kong, seeking detailed information regarding the banned spices and the reasons behind their rejection.
Technical specifications, analytical reports, and specifics regarding exporters, whose shipments have been turned away, are among the details requested. This inquiry extends to the embassies in Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as the Singapore Food Agency and the Centre for Food Safety and Food &amp; Environmental Hygiene Department in Hong Kong.

Jaipur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the Congress tried to extend reservation on the basis of religion and give it to Muslims, and once again accused the party of hatching a "deep conspiracy to snatch people's wealth" and distribute it among "select" people.
Launching a blistering attack on the Congress, Modi also charged that it is difficult to follow one's faith under the Congress and that even listening to Hanuman Chalisa becomes crime under that party's rule.  His remarks come on a day when the country is celebrating Hanuman Jayanti.
Addressing an election rally in Tonk, the prime minister said as soon as the Congress formed the government at the Centre in 2004, one of its first tasks was to reduce the SC/ST reservation in Andhra Pradesh and give it to Muslims.  "Modi is giving you a guarantee with an open heart that reservation for Dalits and backward tribals will neither end nor will it be allowed to be divided in the name of religion," he said.  Asserting that he understands the Constitution, Modi said he is dedicated to the Constitution and is a person who worships B R Ambedkar.  Amid a row over his "redistribution of wealth" remarks, the Prime Minister again charged that the Congress will snatch people's wealth and distribute it to select people.  Modi said the then prime minister Manmohan Singh had given a speech in which he had said that Muslims have the first right on the resources of the country.
"This was not a coincidence. This is not a single statement. Congress' ideology has always been of appeasement and vote bank politics. As soon as the Congress formed the government at the Centre in 2004, one of the first things it did was to reduce the SC/ST reservation in Andhra Pradesh and give it to Muslims," he said.  "This was a pilot project which the Congress wanted to try in the entire country. Between 2004 and 2010, the Congress tried to implement Muslim reservation in Andhra Pradesh four times but due to legal hurdles and the awareness of the Supreme Court, it could not fulfil its intention," he said.  "In 2011, the Congress tried to implement it throughout the country. They played a game of snatching away the rights given to SC, ST and OBC and giving them to others for vote bank politics. The Congress did this deliberately and without caring about the Constitution and B R Ambedkar," he said.
"I want to ask the Congress, will it declare that will it divide the reservation for Dalits and backward tribals and give it to Muslims?" he said.  Modi said when the BJP government in Karnataka got an opportunity, the first thing it did was to abolish the Muslim quota which was created by snatching it from ST and SC.  The Prime Minister said the constitutional limit for reservation was ending in 2020 and he had extended the reservation of Dalit and tribals for another 10 years.  The Congress and I.N.D.I. Alliance, Modi said, were peeved after he "exposed" their vote bank and appeasement politics in his recent address in Rajasthan's Banswara.  "I have put forth the truth before the country that the Congress is hatching a deep conspiracy to snatch your wealth and distribute it among 'select' people," he said.  He said when he "exposed" the vote bank politics of Congress, it angered the Congress and its I.N.D.I. Alliance so much that they have started abusing him everywhere.  Why is the Congress scared of the truth and hiding its policies, the Prime Minister asked.  "You have made the policy and taken the decision and when Modi exposed the secret and your hidden agenda came out, you are trembling," he said.
The Prime Minister charged that the Congress is stuck in the quagmire of its vote bank and does not care about the Constitution.  "It is written in their manifesto that they will survey the wealth. Their leader had said in a speech that X-ray of wealth will be done. This means that if something is kept in a box or hidden in a wall, it will be searched through X-ray. Then they will capture all your property which is more than required and then distribute it among the people," he said.  At a rally in Rajasthan on Sunday, Modi had said that if the Congress came to power, it would redistribute the wealth of people to "infiltrators" and those "who have more children", and cited former PM Manmohan Singh's remark that the minority community had the first claim on the country's resources.  Further attacking the Congress, Modi said, "Even listening to Hanuman Chalisa becomes crime under Congress rule" and referred to an incident in Congress-ruled Karnataka where a shopkeeper was beaten up for listening to Hanuman Chalisa.  He said during the Congress rule in Rajasthan, those who pelted stones on Ram Navmi procession were given protection and restrictions were imposed on such processions.  However, after the formation of the BJP government in the state, no one has the courage to question faith.  "Now, you will recite Hanuman Chalisa peacefully and also celebrate Ram Navami, this is the guarantee of BJP," he said.  The Prime Minister also accused the Congress of throwing Malpura, Karauli, Chhabra, Tonk and Jodhpur into the "fire of riots" during its rule.

According to an affidavit filed by him, his individual assets stood at Rs 2,448.72 crore while his wife Sriratna Koneru has Rs 2,343.78 crore worth assets and children have nearly Rs 1,000 crore.  A press release by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) had earlier said, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath’s son Nakul Nath topped the richest contestants list in the Phase-I of the Lok Sabha polls held on April 19, with nearly Rs 717 crore worth of assets.

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi said that the party in its petition to the Election Commission of India has urged to take 'appropriate action' against Prime Minister Narendra Modi 'irrespective of the status of the person' over the PM's recent speech in Rajasthan's Banswara. Singhvi said that the Prime Minister's statement was 'seriously, ridiculously objectionable'.
"I have had the privilege of leading the Congress delegation involving about 17 complaints to the ECI. Most important is the first one which deals with the extremely objectionable comments of no less than the Chief Executive of this government. We respect the office he holds. He is as much as our Prime Minister as he is yours and he is BJP's. Unfortunately, the statement we have quoted is seriously, ridiculously objectionable. We pray to him (PM Modi) with folded hands to withdraw this statement and to clarify. We have asked the Election Commission to state that this is the position in law, we will do in his respect, whatever we do with others," Singhvi said while talking to reporters after the delegation of Congress met with the Election Commission of India on Monday.  "I am not going to quote what he has said. He has named a community, he has talked of religion blatantly, he has talked of communal and community blatantly. He has linked it with deprivation of resources of the majority and garnering and monopolisation of that resources by that minority. He has brought in Hindu imagery of no less than the Mangalsutra, therefore clearly violated Section 123, the basic principle of not allowing excitement and information of communal passions," the senior Congress leader said. He called the speech a "very serious, uncalled-for invasion" of the Constitution's basic structure and appealed to the ECI for action.
"Several circulars of the ECI on the MCC, the latest being on March 1, 2024. The constitutional ethos and spirit that make secularism a basic structure in our Consitution, makes a level playing field and democracy itself a part of the basic structure. A basic structure means that a constitutional amendment cannot violate the basic structure. This is a very serious, uncalled-for invasion and we hope and trust because the ECI is itself on trial that irrespective of the status of the person who has done this appropriate action as in any other case will and must follow shortly," Singhvi said.

Singhvi-led Congress delegation met with the ECI earlier in the day. In a post on X, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said,"Today an @INCIndia delegation comprising Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Gurdeep Sappal, and Supriya Shrinate met with the Election Commission of India at 4 PM and put forward 16 complaints against the BJP and other actors for violations of The Representation of the People Act, 1951, various judgments of the Supreme Court, and the ECI's Model Code of Conduct. We hope that immediate action will be taken on these very legitimate complaints." Launching a scathing attack on the Congress party, PM Modi earlier on April 21 alleged that the Congress wants to take away the gold and property of people and distribute it among "those having more children."
In his speech in Rajasthan's Banswara, the Prime Minister said that if the Congress came to power, it would redistribute the wealth of people to Muslims and cited former PM Manmohan Singh's remark that the minority community had the first claim on the country's resources. Modi further alleged that the Congress plans to give people's hard-earned money and valuables to "infiltrators" and "those who have more children". "Congress manifesto says that it will calculate the gold owned by our mothers and sisters, collect information and then distribute to those...whom former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had said that Muslims have the first right on country's wealth." "They will check how much gold our sisters own, how much silver tribal families have, and how much money government employees have there. They (Congress) have said that gold owned by our sisters would be equally distributed. Does the government have the right to take your hard-earned property?" PM Modi said. "The gold is not just for showing, it is a woman's self-esteem. The value of 'Mangalsutra' is not just limited to the price of gold, but it is connected with their dreams. You (Congress) are talking about taking it away?" he added.
Attacking the Congress party further, the Prime Minister claimed that the "Urban Naxal" thinking wouldn't even spare the 'Mangalsutra'. "When they (Congress) were in government, they said that Muslims have the first right over India's resources. So, they will distribute this wealth (property and gold) among those having more children, among illegal immigrants...this Urban Naxal thinking won't even spare your Mangalsutra," he added.

Aligarh (UP): Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged that Congress has set its 'eyes' on people's hard-earned wealth, property and 'mangalsutra' of women, and plans to seize and redistribute it. Comparing the thinking of the Congress party with that of "Maoists", PM Modi said that those possessing two properties, will see one of them getting seized by the Congress and the INDIA bloc, if they come to power.
Addressing a public meeting in Aligarh on Monday, PM Modi said, "I want to warn the countrymen. Congress and the INDI alliance now have set their eyes on your (people's) earnings and your property. The 'Shehzada' of Congress says that if their government comes to power, they will investigate who earns how much, who has how many properties, how much money, how many houses. They will investigate all of it. Not just that, the government will seize all these properties and then distribute it." The matter pertains to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's statement, who recently spoke about the need to conduct a survey for more equitable distribution of the country's wealth, which erupted into a political row.  The Congress party later clarified that it didn't mention "redistribution" in its manifesto and nor did Rahul Gandhi promise to redistribute the nation's wealth. Party leader Jairam Ramesh alleged that Gandhi's words were "misquoted" and asserted that the party favours a "comprehensive socio-economic caste census." Emphasising the value of gold and 'mangalsutra' in a women's life, the Prime Minister said that the Congress party wants to survey the salary, investments and properties owned by the public and then seize them.
"Our mothers and sisters have gold. This is not just for wearing on occasions, this is 'stree dhan', it is considered sacred, even the law also protects it. Now they are eyeing to change the law and seize the property of our mothers and sisters. (Congress ki nazar aapki sampatti aur mangalsutar par hai) They have their eyes on the 'Mangalsutra' of women. Their intention is to steal the gold of mothers and sisters," PM Modi said. "The working population...who have invested in FD for the education and marriage of their children. People's salary will be investigated, whether people have one or two vehicles, that will also be investigated...and then Congress will grab their properties," he added.
He further said Congress and the INDIA bloc want to implement the same "Maoist" ideas here which have already ruined many countries. The Prime Minister further alleged that Congress would seize one of the two houses owned by people and give it to those who don't have it. "If you have an old ancestor's home in the village and you have a small flat in your city for the future of your children. If they got to know, they would take away one of the two...saying 'you don't need two, those who don't have it, let them have it'. This is Maoist (Maovadi) thinking, this is the thinking of communists. By doing this they (Communists) have already ruined many countries. Now the Congress Party and INDI alliance want to implement this same policy in India. Congress wants to put its 'panja' (claw) on people's hard-earned wealth. It wants to loot the 'Stree Dhan'," PM Modi said. Earlier on Sunday, PM Modi fiercely denounced manifesto of Congress during a rally in Rajasthan's Banswara and said that the Congress party has plans to redistribute gold and hard-earned money to "illegal immigrants" and "those having more children" while asking people whether this is acceptable to them or not. Aligarh Lok Sabha seat will go to polls in the second phase on April 26 along with Gautam Buddha Nagar, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Mathura and Bulandshahr seats in Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh, the largest state in the country, contributes 80 MPs to the 543- member Parliament.

New Delhi: Supplies of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles from India to the Philippines under a USD 375 million deal, continue as part of the contract between the two nations, defence officials said. The missile system supplies reached at an air base in Manila from India in a chartered Ilyushin-76 transport aircraft on Sunday, they said.
Officials from India and the Philippines are receiving the first batch of equipment supplied to that country as part of the contract, defence officials said. Notably, India delivered the first lot of the supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines on April 19, as part of the deal signed in 2022. The Indian Air Force had sent its American-origin C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft with the missiles to the Philippines to deliver the weapon system to the Philippines' Marine Corps, according to defence sources. The export of ground systems for the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system along with the missiles started last month itself, they said.
The Philippines is taking delivery of the missile systems at a time when tensions between them and China have escalated owing to frequent clashes in the South China Sea. The three batteries of the BrahMos missile system would be deployed by the Philippines in their coastal areas to guard against any threat in the region. The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, a joint venture between the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russian Federation's NPO Mashinostroyeniya, is said to be one of the most successful missile programs in the world. Acknowledged as the foremost and swiftest precision-guided weapon on a global scale, BRAHMOS has played a pivotal role in enhancing India's deterrence capabilities.  The Indian Army has integrated multiple BrahMos regiments into its arsenal since 2007.

Today, India has come into this role because we keep forth truth and non-violence on global platforms with full confidence. We tell the world that the solution to global crises and conflicts lies in India's ancient culture and tradition. Therefore, today India is making its place as a world friend in a world divided in opposition," he said.  "We never came to attack other countries to win them; we have overcome our shortcomings by improving ourselves. Many great civilizations ended, but India found its own way," the Prime Minister said. He further emphasised the importance of strengthening the values of 'Astey' (non-stealing) and 'Ahinsa' (non-violence) in society. "We must work to strengthen the spirits of 'Astey' and 'Ahinsa' in our society. I am sure that your support will make the resolve for Bharat's Vikas Yatra stronger than ever before. 'Yahi Samay Hai, Sahi Samay Hai'!" However, the image of the new India is completely different. This India belongs to Babasaheb Ambedkar, to the poor, to the backward class," he added.
Born on April 14, 1891, Baba Saheb Ambedkar was an Indian jurist, economist, politician, and social reformer who campaigned against social discrimination towards Dalits and supported the rights of women and workers. He died on December 6, 1956. Baba Saheb Ambedkar was a prolific student, earning doctorates in economics from both Columbia University and the University of London. In 1956. He led a satyagraha in Mahad to fight for the right of the untouchable community to draw water from the main water tank of the town. On September 25, 1932, the agreement known as the Poona Pact was signed between Ambedkar and Madan Mohan Malaviya. Due to the pact, the depressed class received 148 seats in the legislature, instead of the 71 as allocated earlier. He was also one of the seven members of the committee that drafted the Indian Constitution after independence. In 1990, Ambedkar was conferred with the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award. Baba Saheb Ambedkar died in his sleep on December 6, 1956 at his home in Delhi.

New Delhi: Hours after Iran launched dozens of drones and missiles at Israel in a retaliatory attack, India on Sunday said it is concerned over escalating hostilities between the two sides that threaten regional peace and security.
Iran carried out the attack on Israel in response to a suspected Israeli strike on its consulate in Damascus on April 1 in which seven Iranian Revolutionary Guards personnel, including two generals, were killed.  In its reaction, India called for immediate de-escalation of the situation and return to the path of diplomacy. New Delhi said its embassies in the region are in close touch with the Indian community in the region.  "We are seriously concerned at the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran which threatens the peace and security in the region," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

I condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms," he said in a statement.

My team will engage with their counterparts across the region," Biden said.  "And we will stay in close touch with Israel's leaders. And while we have not seen attacks on our forces or facilities today, we will remain vigilant to all threats and will not hesitate to take all necessary action to protect our people," he said.

BJP believes that there cannot be gender equality till such time Bharat adopts a Uniform Civil Code, that protects the rights of all women, and the BJP reiterates its stand to draw a Uniform Civil Code, drawing upon the best traditions and harmonising them with modern times," the BJP said in its manifesto.

UCC is contemplated as a common set of laws for citizens governing personal matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption, irrespective of religion, sex, gender or caste. Notably, Uttarakhand became the first state in India to implement UCC earlier this year. The party also said that it will continue its effective efforts to establish peace in the North-East and phase out the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act. "We will continue our efforts to address the issues in the disturbed areas and remove AFSPA in a phased manner. We will further work towards the resolution of inter-state border disputes amongst Northeastern states through sustained efforts," the party said in its manifesto.  Last year, violence rupted in one of the Northeast states- Manipur after indigenous communities held a rally to protest against demands by the main ethnic group in the state for tribal status. Notably, the AFSPA Act empowers the governor of the state or administrator of Union territory or the Centre to issue an official notification concerning disturbed areas, after which the central government has the authority to send in armed forces for civilian aid. The party further said that it will work to leverage the Northeast as a strategic gateway for Bharat's Act East Policy, ensuring connectivity, education, health, economic development and security. BJP also promised to build 'sarovars' to manage floods in the Northeast. "We will ensure flood management in the Northeast by conducting advanced satellite imagery to identify places where big reservoirs can be constructed to store excess waters according to topography, which will be used for irrigation, and organising water sports, among others," it added. The party has also promised to implement laws to prevent paper leaks and conduct transparent public exams.
"We have already enacted a strict law to stop misconduct in recruitment exams across the country. We will strictly implement this law to ensure strict punishment for those playing with the future of our youth. We have set an example by conducting recruitment exams in a transparent manner and recruiting lakhs of youth for government jobs. We will continue to fill the government vacancies in a time-bound and transparent manner. There is a big reason behind it as in the last 10 years, the BJP has implemented every point of its manifesto as a guarantee on the ground. New Delhi: Seventeen Indians are on board an Israeli-linked container ship that has been seized by the Iranian military amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel.
Official sources said India is in touch with Iranian authorities through diplomatic channels, both in Tehran and in Delhi, to ensure the welfare and early release of the Indian nationals.
The Iranian action came amid increasing fears that Tehran may launch an attack on Israeli soil in retaliation to a strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria 12 days ago.  "We are aware that a cargo ship 'MSC Aries' has been taken control by Iran. We have learnt that there are 17 Indian nationals onboard," said a source.  "We are in touch with the Iranian authorities through diplomatic channels, both in Tehran and in Delhi, to ensure security, welfare and early release of Indian nationals," it said.  Reports said Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards seized MSC Aries on Saturday morning when it was sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Kozhikode (Kerala): Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has lauded the efforts of Malayalis from across the globe who rallied together to raise Rs 35.45 crore through a crowd-funding campaign to secure the release of Kohzikode native Abdul Rahim, who has been in jail for more than 18 years in Saudi Arabia and facing a death penalty. Vijayan took to social media to say, "When the propagandists of hatred spread lies against the state, the Malayalees are raising their defence through stories of humanity and philanthropy. For the release of Abdul Rahim, a native of Kozhikode who was sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia, Malayalees all over the world have joined hands and collected 34 crore rupees."
Abdul Rahim employed as a house driver of a Saudi citizen and the caretaker of a 15- year-old disabled boy. In Rahim's version of the fatal incident, while travelling with the boy one day, Rahim stopped the vehicle at a red light. When the boy demanded Rahim violate the red signal, he accidentally hit and dislodged the tube of a life-support device attached to the boy's body after which the boy fell unconscious and died. Rahim was sentenced to death in 2018 under Saudi law for murder and although the victim's family was adamant about the death penalty until the last moment, they eventually agreed to pardoning him if he paid 'blood money' of 15 million Saudi riyals.  The legal action committee that organised the crowdfunding to save Abdur Rahim, thanked the people of the state and said that the collection of funds has stopped and no one should send any more money. The committee set up an app called 'SAVEABDULRAHIM' to collect the amount. More than Rs 30 crore were collected through the app, which was set up and the fundraising target was achieved by adding the amount received offline. The social media campaign was driven by posts and requests to aid the release of Abdul Rahim. Many influencers, NRIs, businessmen, and social activists headed the campaign on social media to ensure he returned home after 18 years. The committee said that it will contact the Indian Embassy in Riyadh to help secure Rahim's release before the April 15 deadline. The Kerala Chief Minister also called the initiative, "a noble example of human love." "To save a human life, to shed tears of a family, they created. This is the real Kerala story. This is a firm declaration that Kerala is a fortress of brotherhood that cannot be broken by communalism. We heartily appreciate all the goodwill that has united for this cause which has made Kerala proud in front of the world. The role played by expatriate Malayalis behind this initiative is commendable. Let us move forward with one mind, stronger for this unity," the Chief Minister said.

The PM also urged the gamers to think of devloping games on a variety of subjects. "Today, world leaders talk about global warming and climate change. People talk about various solutions, but I have presented something different to the world, and that is Mission LiFE! Now, envision a game aimed at addressing global climate issues, where the gamer explores various methods and solutions to identify the most sustainable approach towards climate" the PM said. "You can also develop a game based on 'Swachh Bharat'. The game theme could revolve about cleanliness...and every child should play this... The youth should embrace Indian values and understand their true significance" the PM added. The interaction featured famous Indian gamers including Animesh Agarwal, Naman Mathur, Mithilesh Patankar, Payal Dhare, Tirth Mehta, Ganesh Gangadhar, and Anshu Bisht. The gaming industry in India peaked in 2019 and since then, various games have emerged based on Indian mythology, and the government has been recognizing the creativity. While the country's Esports landscape is mobile-dominated, it is the PC title League of Legends that is making the country proud. Despite the game having no official server in India, the determination and passion of the game's talented athletes saw them utilize their skills to impressively qualify for the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has advised Indians not to travel to Iran or Israel till further notice.
In a statement, the MEA said, "All Indians currently residing in Iran or Israel are requested to get in touch with Indian embassies there and register themselves."
